Quick Update

Life is crazy! Every time I think its about to settle down it just rears it's nasty head and surprises me. Poor little Evie is just getting over a series of terrible sicknesses. It all started when my brother got a bad case of the flu. I don't know where he got it from, he doesn't work or go out much but he was literally either in his room or in the bathroom for a full week.

I thought maybe Evie would escape catching it but instead she got a gross case of a cough and goopy nose. I had to go to work on a Friday so my dear sister Brandi watched Evie for most of the day. When I went to pick her up Brandi suggested that I take her to the doctor's because she was so stuffed up she was having a hard time breathing and when she cried hardly any sound would come out. I was freaked! I made an after-hours appointment for that night and took her in. Turns out she had croup! This terrified me because my only knowledge of croup came from Anne of Green Gables novels where the croup of life threatening. When the doctor told me she had croup I momentarily forgot about modern medicine and was surprised he didn't seem more concerned. Luckily, my fears were short lived when he said he was going to give her a shot to clear her airways and to just make sure she would be put into an environment of high humidity or cold air occasionally. Whew!

She seemed to recover rather quickly from the croup but then right after caught the flu. A couple of days later, Evie was having a really hard night and refused to sleep or get comfortable. I figured this was just the flu or the tail end of the croup. The next day though it didn't get much better and when she took a bath I noticed she had blood in her ear. Again, I freaked and took her into the doctor's office. Turns out, the poor baby had two ear infections and one ruptured ear drum. They put her on antibiotics (amoxicillin), that thick pink bubble-gum stuff. The first night she threw up twice when we tried to give it to her. I was worried about this because I didn't know if she would be able to keep any of it down. When I was little I would throw up any kind of medicine so I really didn't want her to be like me in that respect. Luckily, the next day I gave her a little bit at a time and she did really well. I have to give her 1 1/2 teaspoons twice a day for ten days. We are on day 5, and now she takes it without fussing right from the syringe! I get so excited every time she does. She is feeling MUCH better and is almost back to her happy self. Seth and I have caught a little bit of the sicknesses going around but thank goodness it hasn't been too bad.

Seth is loving and doing great at his job. We feel so incredibly lucky that he is able to have a job he enjoys going to every day. He learns a lot more about his craft every day and is going to be a whiz pretty soon! My good friend, Ashley, from BYUH helped me get an amazing job working for Western Governor's University. I got hired a few weeks ago as an Editor for their Course of Study which I guess you could call a really in-depth type of syllabus or guide. I work primarily from home and part time for now with one day in the office. Starting at the end of Feb I'm going to be working full time from home with one day in the office. I'm really excited to have this opportunity! These next few months are going to be really, really, difficult for me though because I'm finishing my last official semester as a Masters student and then I'm going to focus on my thesis. I feel like if I can get through to May being a full time mother, student, and editor life will be MUCH easier after that

Micki! I just had the best time reading through your blog :) You've got the cutest family!

About our camera - BEST. PURCHASE. EVER. I haven't regretted it one single big. not a bit. ever. the moments we've been able to capture with a good camera are priceless - i'm so glad we splurged on a camera. We got the Nikon D3000 from Costco - it came as a package deal and I think there was a rebate so it was around $700. I promise you - it will change your life.
